The main purpose of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 is to protect Queensland’s environment while allowing for ecologically sustainable development. It also requires Council to monitor the standard of operations in Waste Management Works (including Waste Transporters).

Waste transport includes removal, collection and transportation of waste.
The monitoring of Waste Transporters is intended to address environmental and health impacts of waste management activities through:

  • prevention of illegal dumping,
  • prevention of land contamination,
  • secure containment of wastes in storage and transit,
  • appropriate storage, handling and disposal of wastes, and
  • data collection with regard to quantities of waste.
